I'm Emely a family lifestyle photographer based out of Orlando, FL . This blog is usually dedicated to sharing photo sessions and related photography topics. However, last summer I shared on my Instagram page that we decided to make some renovations to our kitchen. Some of you have reached out from time to time to ask us how it was going so I decided to share the before and after outcome here! It was a big project and took us much longer then expected but I am so happy to share that it is complete!
My husband being the big DIY'er that he is worked on this project almost exclusively only hiring out the installation of the granite counter tops. It has been finished for a few months now and I finally got the chance to get the pictures together and share with you all.
Before and During Pictures:
The renovations included painting the cabinets, replacing cabinet handles, and making modifications to the top and crown molding. Replacing the counter-tops, sink, and faucet. Lastly removing the island and installing back-splash.
Removing the island was such a tough decision! On the one hand I love the extra counter space that an island provides, on the other hand our kitchen is just too small to accommodate it. We would run into the island just by opening the refrigerator door or by opening the oven. Even though I had mixed feelings about it I am so glad we went ahead and took it out. We did compensate for this by leveling out and expanding the counter top a little where the sink is so we sort of still have an "island" feel to it. Now we have room to walk around in the kitchen and open doors without running into the island and it makes the kitchen look a little more spacious!
I ran a poll on Instagram a few months back to help with the backsplash choices. There were just too many and I needed a little help! The choice we ended up with actually looks just like the Pinterest Inspiration I have pinned! You can find this one at the Home Depot and it is called Tranquil Stone Grey by Jeffrey Court.
