Let the holiday planning begin! A favorite time of year for so many because it is a time to get together, love on those closest to us, and create or continue the traditions our children will remember fondly.
One tradition that is a must is the annual family photo! Whether you are prepping to send out holiday cards to your friends and family or enjoy looking back on just how much your children have grown from last year. I always say anytime you choose to get your photos taken is the right time, yet here in Florida, the Fall is some of the most gorgeous weather we experience in the entire year. The heat and humidity have lifted and we can, for the most part, comfortably wear our holiday best without melting!
Once you have scheduled your photo session your very next thought may likely be... what should we all wear? We still want to make sure you are dressed to impress even though my client closet is not available for these shorter sessions.
Women usually have the hardest time picking out what to wear and for that reason I think this is a great starting point. So ladies, you get to pick out something that you love and feel beautiful in and that is what you will use to build the rest of the outfits from. Flowy midi and maxi dresses in general are very flattering and tend to photograph just amazing!
If you've read my tips on what to wear for your photo session, many of the same tips apply here as well! I recommend choosing a color palette of 3/4 colors to coordinate everyone. If you've been following my work you will also notice the brighter aesthetic. To keep that theme going it's a great idea for most of your colors to be in the family of neutrals. Neutrals are classic and don't go out of style. It's the holidays so feel free to throw in some small pops of a festive color.
These collages are not here to stress you out or feel that you need to hunt down exact items. Rather they are here to help you visualize general styles and colors that will coordinate well with each other. I always say shop your closet first. You may already have several items that work and that will cut down on what you may need to purchase.
It doesn't get cold too often in Florida but sometimes it may even be cool enough for cozy knits and layers, take full advantage of that!
Cozy knits look wonderful at the Christmas tree farm, if weather allows this is a great option!
Make sure to avoid large logos, neon colors, overpowering patterns, and screen printed characters on clothing. This will ensure that your portrait is classically timeless.
For children and babies, make sure clothes fit properly. Kids grow so fast and last years pants may be a little too small this year. On the other hand buying a size up so it will last longer is also not a good idea for the purpose of photos as your are aiming for a nice fitted look.
Remember, the most important thing you can wear is your smile!
