You booked your portrait session or you are inquiring about booking one, what do you need to do to get ready for your maternity portraits?
When should I take my Maternity Portraits?
While you can schedule your maternity photos at any gestational age the most ideal time is between 29-34 weeks pregnant. You can absolutely take your maternity photos outside of this time frame. However after your 29th week you are in your third trimester of pregnancy which is when your baby bump will be nice and round. With that being said during the last few weeks is also when you are most exhausted so if you can I would absolutely encourage you to schedule your portrait session before 34 weeks. Another great reason to schedule early is due to the possibility of delivering early.
Of course these are suggestions, if you are 38 weeks pregnant and decide that you do in fact want to document this time with a portrait session it's not too late, unless your water has broken! In that case head to the hospital lol.
What should I wear to my Maternity Portrait Session?
The look of a long flowy dress is timeless and elegant! Whatever you decide to wear will ultimately depend on the vision you have in mind for your portraits.
Upon booking your session I will be more than happy to discuss wardrobe, colors and location options with you.
Some of my favorite dress designers are Nothing Fits But, Baltic Born, Morning Lavender, Lulus and Vici.
I also offer a complimentary client closet for full sessions, contact me for more information.
Your dress does not necessarily need to be a "maternity dress". As long as it has an empire waist and is loose and flowy in the tummy area it will work just fine!
Hair, Makeup, Nails
If you are able to get your hair, nails, and makeup done professionally for your portrait session that is always a great option.
You can also schedule makeup appointments at places like Sephora, Ulta, and MAC. Central Florida also has so many independent makeup artists that have stellar work.
If you need to DIY your portrait session beauty I have some tips for that as well! Make sure your nails are clean and groomed. If you are able to paint your nails that is always a nice touch that looks great in photos. Even a clear coat will help to give you a nice polished look.
Use products in your hair for hold or humidity depending on the weather. If you are doing your own makeup make sure your foundation is a good match to your skin-tone and is applied evenly. Thankfully nowadays there are many resources such as YouTube to help you do this on your own if you are unable to book a makeup artist.
Get a good nights rest the day before, have a nice meal, relax, arrive to your session and let's have a great time!
