Choosing to strengthen your online image with a professional headshot is a wise choice as oftentimes your headshot is the very first impression someone will get of you. It can be the difference between instilling trust and establishing a connection rather than being overlooked.
A quality headshot can convey that you are warm, personable, and a great addition to the team.
What to wear for Professional Headshots
What you wear for your headshots can greatly depend on your industry, career aspirations, or personal branding if you are an entrepreneur.
Business attire is a good rule of thumb for most. Solid and neutral colors are always a smart choice due to their timeless nature. For the most part I recommend wearing something with sleeves of some kind or a blazer over your cami or sleeveless blouse.
Wear what you would wear to a job interview. Dress to impress, when you look good, you will feel good! This in itself will help you feel more confident and relaxed.
Try on your outfit before and ensure you have a clean fitted look.
Skin, Hair, & Makeup
Headshot makeup can differ from other more "glam" makeup opportunities in that you are aiming for an enhanced natural look. It is very important that you still look like....well, YOU!
In the days leading up to your session get plenty of sleep (especially the night before), drink plenty of water, moisturize (use sunscreen during the day), and avoid too much time in the sun. All of these things will help your skin look it's best.
Feel free to bring along a lint free cloth to blot out shine or reapply a matte powder.
Use products in your hair for hold (or humidity/frizz) depending on the weather. Products that add shine (without a wet look) are useful as well. Biosilk is a great serum for shine.
Things to Avoid
Avoid thin stripes as they create a moire effect on camera.
Busy patterns.
Graphic Tees
Baggy and wrinkled clothing.
